Indiana Jones Movie Marathon Party

What better way to enjoy a chilly winter day, than with a Movie Marathon?  With an Indiana Jones Movie Marathon, of course.

The table is decorated with burlap and jungle vines, just what any Adventurer would find comfortable.

Taters of the Lost Ark is a total crackup.  He kept the party going and no one tried to eat him, although his distant cousin Tater Chip, was not so lucky.

We had to have breaks between each movie and used the time for various activities.  Prizes were given throughout the day, based upon discovered, stolen and earned ancient golden coins.

Indiana Jones kept folks enthralled for the entire day.  What else is an Adventurer to do?

To keep our guests entertained and from turning into Couch Taters (more relations to Tater's of the Lost Ark), we staged a Quest for an archaeological find in the woods, I mean jungle.

Clues were scattered throughout the jungle, leading our Adventures deeper into the wilds and the danger lurking there.  We found signs of Natives, but not to worry, our Adventures came armed with their savvy jungle skills and man purses.

To the surprise of no one, our Intrepid Explorers discovered the treasure after many dangerous minutes (that's hours to you people).

Can't have a movie without popcorn.  Everyone knows that.

The snake pit was a big hit and got lots of use throughout the party.  Two inexpensive boxes purchased at Walmart and duct taped together (that's right) turned into a dark cave passage filled with snakes and spiders....but wait, there is treasure lurking as well.

The kids had a blast crawling through the tunnel and risking life and limb to gather as many ancient golden coins as possible.  Fortune and Glory awaited and the reptiles were no match.

It was a great party and after a long day of being Indiana Jones, it was time for that Dude to get some rest.

Great Family Movie - Mr Hobbs Takes a Vacation

If you love classic movies, Jimmy Stewart, family movies, a good laugh or all of the above, you need to rent or purchase Mr Hobbs Takes A Vacation.  This movie is about Mr. Hobbs (Jimmy Stewart) who just wants to take a restful, uneventful vacation and get out of the city.  His wife (Maureen O'Hara) wants to take the entire family to the seashore and what ensues is the typical family vacation that we can all relate to with lots of fun but also loads of drama (mostly of the teenage variety).  The Steve Martin movie Cheaper By The Dozen 2, is a nod towards this classic movie.

Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation Poster

This movie is from the early 60's and it is funny to see that the problems parents deal with today with their family are the same problems Mr. Hobbs dealt with in 1962.

Let me know if you have seen this movie and if you enjoyed it.  If you haven't seen it, I think it would be worth your time to pop some popcorn, snuggle under a fluffy blanket on the couch and turn on this movie.

Movie Stars in Tennessee

Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon are in Tennessee and North Georgia, shooting scenes for their new movie, Water for Elephants.  Shooting will be at a home owned by the Cross Family on West Cove Road in Chickamauga, Georgia and at the Tennessee Railroad Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in the next few days.   If I had some time off, I might just take some time to tool around to these locations and watch the festivities.  One of the local news programs showed the Chickamauga, Georgia location today and at 5:30am people were already lining the streets.  Robert Pattinson shot a scene at the home this morning....poor baby, hope he does not melt in our humid Southern temps.

Mike and I are celebrating our 35th Anniversary this weekend with a trip to Franklin, Tn.  Going antiquing!!

Catching Up

I have been able to recover my laptop operating system and am working on reloading my programs.  I can now get to the Internet and back on my blog.  I'll be catching up on reading through the posts I've missed over the next few days.  As my husband mentioned this weekend, I have been lost without my computer and am so happy to be able to take my trips back into Cyberspace.

Mike and I hit some yardsales on Saturday morning and scored some brand spanking new Southern Living Annual cookbooks.  I have the entire collection except for a few of the early 1980s ones.  When I find them now, I pick them up for my daughter Tiffany, who is working on building her collection.  I also picked up 9 plantation shutters for $1 each.  We had breakfast at Southern Restaurant in Red Bank and then stopped at TJ Maxx and a couple others shops.   On Saturday night, we had an outdoor movie party and viewed Night At The Museum 2.

Of course, riding the four wheeler in the dark is a must.  We intentionally pick movies that we know the kiddies like, but they still get restless after the first half hour.  The popcorn and candy only works for a while before they have to jump up and move around.  Mike took care of that by pulling out the four wheeler and tooling around on some nocturnal tours.

There are not too many things more beautiful than a Southern summer night, when a big ole bright moon is peaking over the treetops and covering the landscape with a silvery glow.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and you were able to enjoy your family and the beautiful outdoors.

He's Home Alone (but not really)

Alden has a series of movies that are his favorites. The way this child watches movies is not from beginning to end, so don't panic...he is not constantly in front of the TV....he only has certain scenes that he likes. Currently, he is on a Home Alone binge...he likes to watch both HA1 and HA2, but he is very specific about which he wants to watch and when. I have to question him to make sure I put the right one in the DVD. The conversation goes something like this.

Alden "Jammi, I want to watch Home Alone."

Me "Which one, the one where Marv steps on the nail (HA1) or the one where Kevin throws the bricks (HA2)?

At which point Alden decides and lets me know his preference....he usually end up watching both, but he doesn't always watch them in order, HA1 first and then HA2. For HA1, I have to forward to the chapter where Kevin goes to the church and meets the Southbend Shovel Slayer in person.....for HA2, I have to forward to the chapter where Kevin is racing along to the New York apartment where he devises his cool plan to lure Harry and Marv to their doom.

Alden has a very cool imagination and he acts out the movies as they are occurring. Have I mentioned that I love this kid, he keeps me in stitches much of the time. We had to draw up the plans to thwart those evil bad guys, so Alden can help Kevin out...we have the plans for booby trapping from both movies and let me tell you, they are now well worn....my home is also appropriately booby trapped, but then again, isn't every domicile?

When he is on a binge with Night at the Museum, we have a set of the instructions that Cecil leaves with Larry on his first night alone, as well as a set of my vintage keys that Alden uses and of course, his long black flashlight. We have not yet figured out how to duplicate Ahkmenrah's tablet. This movie, he will watch from beginning to end.
Lexi and Connor have not yet gotten to the age where they play so vividly...with Lexi, she likes Dollhouse and having tea parties...Connor, just likes to climb on the steps and have someone haul him off about 200 times in a 5 minute span. I can't wait to see what we get into with these two nutheads.

Twilight Movie Party

My Twilight movie party on Sunday afternoon was quite fun....I had some technical (=operator) difficulty with my projector to speaker hook-ups, but other than that we had a really good time.

Buffet table full of Twilight treats, because even Vampires have to eat:

Movie tickets for VIP entry to my exclusive party and memorabilia from my Friday midnight foray with hubby.

Bloodsucker Cake:

Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.

My Latest Obsession - Twilight

As much as I read and surf the internet, I somehow missed any mention of the Twilight series by author Stephenie Meyer, until now, and even though I frequently scan the Young Adult reading section at the bookstore, I was oblivious. I also missed that there was a movie, while it was available on the big screen. It is not like me to be so blind to both the reading and movie world, since I adore both. When I did become aware, last weekend, I was hooked....It happened suddenly with a download from my movie site, then as the story begins I found myself intrigued by the beautiful Cullen family.....the bond that starts slowly between Bella and Edward...the binding friendship with Jacob. This movie has everything - close family and friends that are supportive and present, no matter the difficulty...and there ARE difficulties....an unlikely romance between a charismatic, and dare we say totally handsome Vampire, and a clumsy but cute human who has more perils than Pauline, lots of cars and stunning scenery.

The movie made me aware of the book series and I have consumed them all over the past week. Stephenie Meyer has created a differant take on the Vampire and Werewolf mythology and has spun a delightful modern day fairytale. The story is a gentle blend or action, romance, mythology, family and friendship that will and has appealed to a varied audience. Check it out, you'll be glad you did...released to DVD on 3/21.

Great Escape

Watched a good movie tonight from my download collection....Eagle Eye with Shia LeBeouf....I am really loving his movies....Indiana Jones (of course), Transformers and Disturbia....and from his younger days - Holes. Disturbia is a remake of an old Alfred Hitchcock film and was a really good suspense thiller...well cast and the acting was great.

Eagle Eye is another movie that Mr. LeBeouf again provides a superb performance...what a cutie...check it out!
