Red, White and Blue here we come

I've been preparing for the Fourth of July party we'll be having on Saturday. We're expecting about 30 people for a cookout and outdoor movie.

Inspired by the beautiful stars made byJen Jen at Tatetots and Jello, I've made my own version of stars in a patriotic color scheme. My stars are made from cardstock and scrapbook paper and have five equal points.

I started with a template and cut 5 points from heavy cardstock.

Next, I scored each point down the center to add dimension.

Glue the points together to form the five point star.

Next cut 5 points from various scrapbook paper, I loved the idea Jen had of using five coordinating papers for each star.

Glue the scrapbook paper points to the cardstock star form.

Punch hole in top of one of the points and add coordinating ribbon.

I Mod Podged some decorative balls in patriotic colored scrapbook paper as well. Materials needed are scrapbook paper cut in strips, water, Mod Podge, styrofoam balls, Sponge brush.

Dip paper strips in water. Use sponge brush to apply Mod Podge covering styrofoam ball, Wind wet paper strips about the styrofoam ball, making sure they fit closely and without gaps. After balls are covered completely, dab additional Mod Podge all over your paper covered ball. I used the glossy Mod Podge. Let dry and display.

We made a fireworks run tonight, as well. Living in a rural area, we don't have access to a lot of conveniences...but we live close to the fireworks mecca of the South. Back in the early 90's there was a movie with Ed O'Neil called, Dutch. In the movie, Dutch is in Kimball, Tn in front of one of the local fireworks places.

My daughter Tanesia, gave me this beautiful arrangement and it will look great on the table on Saturday.

All the best,
